The Chen Bing Taiji Academy (陳炳太極院) was established by Master Chen Bing who is a direct descendant of the Taijiquan creator (Chen Wangting) from Chenjiagou (Chen Village – The Birth Place of Taijiquan) in Henan Province, China. Our academy is the only certified Chen Family Taijiquan academy in Los Angeles.
Chen Family Taijiquan (陳氏太極拳) is the mother form of Taijiquan from which other various styles such as Yang, Wu and Sun are ultimately derived. The Taijiquan creator, Chen Wangting, was a 9th generation representative of the Chen family about 400 years ago (in the late Ming dynasty) and created Taijiquan based upon the Yin and Yang theory from Yijing (易經: yìjīng), breathing of Qi Inducing Practice (導引吐納: dǎoyǐntǔnà), 29 postures of the military tactics book (紀效新書: jìxiàoxīnshū) by Qi Jiguang (戚繼光: Qī Jìgūang) and the theory of meridians in Chinese medicine. Chen Family Taijiquan requires sturdiness, softness, fastness and slowness. If there is only slowness, it can't seize all principles of Taijiquan.
Tai Chi (Tai Chi Chuan) is a phonetic notation of spelling Chinese Taijiquan. Taijiquan is correct according to the Chinese Pinyin System. It is also simply called Taiji.

Master Chen Bing (陳炳) is an outstanding representative of a 20th generation of the Chen family and the only son of Chen Yonghe who was an old brother of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang and Chen Xiaoxing. He is a direct descendant of the Taijiquan creator (Chen Wangting) and president of Chen Bing Taiji Academy.

Due to his many prizes from international competitions, he earned the name of "Taiji Almighty (太極全能)" and is considered "Chinese Intangible Cultural Asset of Taijiquan." Master Chen Bing is a former vice mayor of Chen Village and graduated from Shanghai University of Sports.

Bosco Seung-Chul Baek (白承哲) is the only disciple of Master Chen Bing in the U.S. and currently runs Chen Bing Taiji Academy in Los Angeles. Since 2000, Bosco Baek has been training under Master Chen Bing and became a disciple on Christmas Day of 2005 in Chen Village. He is a gold medalist of 2002 Korea National Taijiquan Tournament, 2004 Chicago International Wushu-Gongfu Tournament, and 2008-2009 Illinois Open Martial Arts Championship. Mr. Baek is an instructor of Chinese Hygiene Qigong (中華養生益智功), Raja Yoga (Korea Yoga Academy) and a former Tai Chi professor at Samra University. He graduated from Loyola University Chicago.
Lineage – The Chen Bing Taiji Academy succeeds the most authentic lineage in the world of Taijiquan because Master Chen Bing is a direct descendant of the Taijiquan creator, Chen Wangting (陳王廷). He is the only son of Chen Yonghe who was the eldest brother of Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang and Chen Xiaoxing. Currently, Master Chen Bing's eldest uncle, Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, is a representative of Chen Family Taijiquan and their lineage is the only pure blood line of Chen Wangting's direct descendants.
The Chen family has succeeded their family's martial arts over 400 years since 1600s. It is rare to find the family created its own martial arts and has maintained for over 4 decades. It is historically proven Chen Family Taijiquan is the original Taijiquan form according to available records and extensive research.

Silk Reeling Energy – (纏絲勁: chánsījìn) is generated by rotating the dantian (approximately 1.5 inches below the navel) and helps Qi (氣, energy) interpenetrate through the entire body. Silk Reeling exercises help open the eight extraordinary meridians (energy pathways), improve the balance of the Yin and Yang and develop the core of dantian for a physical and mental condition.

It requires spiral movements from the dantian, deep relaxation (fangsong) and other certain principles to make energy penetrate through the bones, joints and nerves.

In this way, a practitioner is able to lessen the severity of physical and mental ailments because it makes pierce out blockages in the meridians. Silk Reeling exercise can be executed by anyone regardless of age and body condition because it possesses profound principles of the essence of Taijiquan and has a different effect on various conditions of practitioners.

Self healing
Chen Family Taijiquan's unique Silk Reeling Energy helps a practitioner do "self-healing" for different kinds of ailments, such as back pain (herniated disk), arthritis, heart disease, low & high blood pressure, low bone density, sleep problems, stroke and cancer, if the meridians are powerfully stimulated. In order to maximize the self-healing process, authentic teaching methods must be taught by a qualified instructor from the Chen family.
